Affiliate Project – Recent Success with our 2nd niche site MaternitySwimwear.org.uk
Affiliate Project have been working hard on improving our SEO for our niches sites.
Recently we launched our 2nd niche site Maternity Swimwear. It has only been a couple of weeks and our first challenge was to get our site established and up there ranking high so that we could get traffic to the site. After about a week, we’ve managed to get certain keywords ranking well. We are seeing an increase in visitors to the site and already we’ve had a couple of sales. This has generated over £400 to the merchants and we hope to improve on this.
Currently we are ranking on the first couple of pages for our main keywords Maternity Swimwear, Maternity Swimsuits, Maternity Tankinis, Maternity Bikinis and Maternity Accessories.
These keywords are fairly competitive according to Google Adwords Keyword Tool. So to compete we are working hard to write more and more articles and blogging on posts and forums. We are also exchanging links with other similar sites, preferably the higher ranked sites as this will help us with our ranking.
Currently Maternity Swimwear gets approx 18,100 exact hits for local search, maternity swimsuits 590, maternity tankinis 390, and maternity bikinis 320.
If we can get in the top 5 position on the first page for Google for all those keywords, we could see approx 8000 visitors a month come to our site. If only 1% of these convert into a sale, then we could be looking at generating approx £2500 to the merchants each month.

Affiliate Project to improve SEO on niche sites = more conversions
As still fairly new to Affiliate Internet Marketing, we are learning all the time. We’ve seen quite a few sales but would like to improve this. We have therefore been revisiting our sites to try and improve on the potential for these niches.
Today we analyzed the traffic coming to our sites and the position where our niche sites are ranked in Google for particular keywords that we are targeting. Many of our keywords are ranking well, but for some of the keywords that are more specifically targeted are not ranked as well.
An example would be our site Power Plates. We are ranking very well for those keyword terms (”power plates”) and have seen a few sales from the click-throughs for those exact keywords, which is great, but are people searching for those keywords because they are looking to buy or just finding out information about what the exercise machines are and how they work. To improve on our earning potential, we think we need to try and do well on keywords where the Customer knows what they are looking for, such as a special model, like body sculpture bm1500. This way we are more likely to attract the buyer near the end of the buying process. They’ve found the model they like are are now looking for reviews and/or the best price.
Now to improve our ranking, we’ve looked at the competition, unfortunately the top ranking sites are the big sites such as amazon and ciao (comparison site) but we do like a challenge. Those big named sites do not appear to have many back links for those specific keywords and not too many internal links, so if we can get our SEO spot on for page title, meta description, keywords, and headings and try and promote through links, hopefully we can get up on the top of the 1st page. Currently we are ranked in position 16, so lets see how it goes and if this helps with extra sales.

Affiliate Projects recent SEO success
Through hard work and improving on our SEO skills we have had some recent success. We have managed to get Maternity Swimwear onto the 1st page for global and UK search term “maternity swimwear” so we are really pleased at this. To get on the 1st page with SEO alone is a major achievement.
We have also managed to get our Power Plates site up on the first page for a particular brand and model name, body sculpture power trainer bm1500 and the reason we have done this is this is our best seller and a product we want to promote. Again this is through SEO alone so our skills are improving.
So for the sites we have really been concentrating on, Affiliate Project, Power Plates and Maternity Swimwear we are ranked on the 1st page of Google for the search term we are targeting for each of them and for Affiliate Project and Power Plates we are raking in the top 5. Not bad we think for two people who only recently started this.
New site launched – www.maternityswimwear.org.uk
Well after a bit of a break and some well earned rest we are back. We have created another site, Maternity Swimwear where we list the best maternity swimwear from the best retailers at the best prices including Maternity Bikinis, Maternity Tankinis and Maternity Swimsuits. This was a real challenge this one as it is the first site we have done with proper data feeds. We have pulled in the data feeds from merchants and are now pulling them out of our database using SQL and positioned them using php to create tables rather than using a table plug-in. Another steep learning curve for us but one we hope will stand us in good stead for future product related sites. We are very proud of the site and already it is ranked 6th on the 2nd page of google for “maternity swimwear” on the UK search. We hope to improve this by improving our rating and SEO. Affiliate Project’s first niche site produces some income
We have had a purchase through our first nice site www.powerplates.org.uk. We also know that the site is starting to attract traffic and visitors. We have been working hard to improve the SEO on the site to keep it high up on google and it is currently on the first page so we are pleased with that. We have also been busy keeping the site up to date. Some prices have changed and we have increased the products we offer and compare to keep up to date with the market. This can be time consuming and therefore we are looking at product feeds and how we can utilize them in the future. We have also purchased some further domains and are busy working those. We are still enjoying the affiliate business and are working hard in our spare time to maintain the project and move it forwards.
How to use Google Adwords Keyword Tool to find search volumes for niche keywords
The Google Adwords Keyword Tool is a very useful tool for any affiliate to help find information about keywords and how they are performing in Google’s search engine. This is a very useful tool when thinking of a niche affiliate site so that you can check things like the search volume, the advertiser competition and the average search volumes for those keywords.
Once you have found you niche idea, use the keywords tool to check how many people are searching for those specific keywords. This will help determine if you can potentially make money from your niche site through affiliate links.
The Google Adwords Keyword Tool will also show you the Estimate Average CPC (Cost per click).
For example, this blog site Affiliate project, type in those keywords and below will show you an example screenshot of the keyword CPC, Competition, Search Volume for previous month and Average Search Volume.

As you will see from the 2 screenshots above (hopefully as the images are quite small) that the broad term gets approx 5,400 search hits a month for those keywords. Now people will be typing in those 2 keywords. In the 2nd screenshot our exact search is only 16 on average but was 140 in February, so not many people using the exact search term “affiliate project”.
You can either use those keywords to try and optimise your site via SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) or you can improve your search results by buying these keywords after signing up to have a Google Ads account. Once you add those keywords, this would allow you to be added to the sponsors section on google’s search engine if someone searches for those keywords.
Now an example niche site that we have recently done is power plates or www.powerplates.org.uk , Vibration Fitness machines which are currently quite popular amongst celebrities and sports professionals, so we thought it might be a good niche site with quite a lot of keyword search volume, approx 9,900 in Jan/Feb on average for the exact search term “power plates”. Go ahead and find your niche…
To summarise, follow the basic steps below:
- Go to google adwords keyword tool
- Enter your niche keywords and characters shown to show the results, click Get keyword ideas
- Change the columns to show all
- If keywords entered is more 2 or more words, then change Match type to be exact to give you the exact search for “keyword1 keyword2″ in quotes. This way you can target a specific search.
- Click on the Approx Avg Search Volume to sort by column, this will show the most searches first
Working hard
Well we haven’t blogged for a while so just wanted to update you regular readers. We are working hard on our next two sites. We have turned it into a competition and have given ourselves 1 month to write the sites and launch. Whoever makes the most money in the first month buys the other a beer! Needless to say with this incentive it’s full steam ahead.
We have also been busy updating powerplates.org.uk where we have taken on board peoples comments and improved the site. At the moment using some web stats we can see traffic coming to the new site so we are really pleased with the start it’s made. We are also busy looking to improve our SEO as well.
powerplates.org.uk – ranked #9 on first day
With the SEO we have done on our first day of launch we are ranked number 9 on Google for an exact search of “Power Plates”. We feel this a great achievement for our first niche site. We have had some useful feedback as well so already have some improvements we will be making to the site. We are really enjoying this and the buzz we have both received from creating and launching the new site and this site is great. We look forward to this continuing as we create more sites. We are finding our way in the affiliate world and are already networking to get help and to offer our advice where we can.
What are Backlinks?
Backlinks are incoming links to a website or web page. So if a website contains a link to a new website or web-page then that link is called a backlink for the destination webpage.
Backlinks are important for Search Engine Optimization (SEO). The reason for this is that the number of backlinks is one indication of the status or importance of that website or page. The more backlinks a site has, the more popular that website is deemed to be as more people are linking to it. Search engines use backlinks as a way of determining where that website appears in the ranking on search terms. There are other factors involved but improving backlinks is one way to increase the SEO of your website.
We are just discovering backlinks and will be trying to generate some useful, genuine backlinks to our site. To find out the backlinks on a site in Google you can type the following into the search field:

Affiliate Project UK – Top on Google – Ranked number 1
Day 9 for Affiliate Project and we are ranked number 1 in Google search engine for both the entire web search and for uk search. This is for the broad keyword search affiliate project. We are really happy with the results. According to Google Adwords Tool we can hopefully expect to get approx 5,400 hits per month on those keywords searches, providing we stay at the top and people decide our site is interesting enough to want to click through to.
