Sorry for the late reply. Need to keep this blog more up to date lol.

Our main earning sites were not affecting, luckily enough, we noticed some sites that didn’t really add much value so as to be expected.

Kirsty’s post was very good and should help others out with ideas how to improve affiliate type sites.

Reading Kirty’s latest blog post at affiliate stuff I wondered how Panda effected your portfolio of sites?

We did rather well out of it except one of our #1 ranking sites has dropped to #8

Hi Amit, Yes I hope she can avoid some of the newbie learning curve. She is really working hard to get her sites up there and get good unique, quality content on them. Regarding the products they are displayed using our own method described in a previous blog entry on displaying data feeds using SQL. Saves paying for something like price tapestry and you can manipulate them how you want.

Wow, thats definitely impressive. Well at least she can avoid the “newbie” mistakes and learn from your experience.

Not sure but is the products displayed are the result of price comparison by “price tapestry”?

You should look again at outsourcing, at least have a serious look at the pros and cons.

Outsourcing won’t hinder you, it will just help you get there faster.

You need to look at outsourcing in a different way. People tend to look at it as an expense, rather than an activity that creates revenue.

People also view adwords with the same ‘expense’ attitude, but it’s not. If you spend £200 a week on adwords, but it creates £1000 profit, then it is not costing you any money, it is generating you an additional £1000 a week

Outsourcing content and links is just the same, it may cost $30 per page for content and links, but if it then brings in $60 a month for the next 12 months, maybe longer for longtails, that is a profit of $690 a year, which you wouldn’t have had. Times that by all the extra pages you add and that is a nice increase in earnings that you otherwise wouldn’t have had.

The figures are purely for illustration purposes, but you should be able to see using you own figures that it will be a profitable activity.

If you are not reliant on the money you are earning through AM then I personally (and I think a lot of other people too) would reinvest as much of it as possible back into your sites, it seems almost silly not to, a bit like starving the goose that is laying the golden eggs.

I was one of those affiliates to get a ban!

Worked out ok for me in the end and I will live to fight another day.

Will hit my Christmas site big time though as it is not ranking at all and I was hoping to promote it with PPC but what can you do?

Yeah, agree with all fo this completely. I think to rank well, you simply have to completely ignore all the little toolbars, stats, bar charts and any other graphical or numerical representation of how good a site is or how high it should rank and just build the site, write content, get some links, write more content, get more links and just get your head down and get on with it.

No amount of looking at stats or bars will ever help you understand what’s happening so just crack on and build god, solid site.

Thanks for popping by Mouli. I guess it depends on what people want out of life. Trying to have everything isn’t always possible, but Affiliate Marketing is certainly going to give us some flexibility.

I think of the main advantages of being a full-time affiliate is the control it would give you over your life what with being able to choose your hours.

But until I get to that point I am putting in as many hours as I can to try and setup my empire for the future.

Thanks for your comments Whiteknight. Exactly our thoughts, if we can achieve results even when we’re not working as such, we can spend time with the family and have the flexibility we can work when we want as much or as little as we want. At the moment we are trying to spend as much time as possible without affecting family life as we both still have full time jobs to fit around AM. I think we will focus on our existing sites with products that have potential to sell well at Christmas. It can take some time for Google to pick up a new site and I think we’ll also be spending more time promoting our Discount Code site.
